Object Description
A typed two paged document stapled together on aged nearly translucent paper and typed in black ink.  At the central top of the letter are the words, "Proclamation by the Governor of the State of Texas to all to whom these presents shall come." Located on the top right corner is the form number, Form 2081-0665-340-10m. The letter is a proclamation officiated by Coke Stevenson the Governor of the state of Texas, stating that the date April 24, 1942 is to be Greek Day. The letter reads, WHEREAS, on the twenty-seventh day of this month a year will have passed since the occupation by the enemy of the valiant country of Greece; year marked with mass starvation, desecration of the Greek citizens, pillaging of treasured possessions; and WHEREAS, the Greek-American Progressive Association, a national organization of Greek women, appeals to the people of Texas to pray with them, our allies against despotism and dictatorship, for the delivery of Greece. NOW, THEREFORE, I Coke Stevenson, Governor of the State of Texas, proclaims April 27,1942, as Greek Day in Texas." In the bottom right-corner are the words, “In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name officially, and caused the Seal of State to be impressed hereon at Austin, this the 7th day of April, A. D., 1942.” with an empty signature line for the Governor of Texas.
