Object Description
A letter from Maco Stewart from Galveston, Texas to United State Senator Tom Connally, Washington, D.C., recommending Mrs. Maria Economidy for the position in the Aid to Greece Project. The letter is three paragraphs long and is dated February 16, 1949. The letter reads, "Dear Senator:- It has been called to my attention that Mrs. Marie Economidy of 1817- 21st street, Galveston, Texas would like to very much to work with the Aid to Greece project. She is the wife of the late H. Economidy, who, prior to his death, was with the Insurance Commission of the State of Texas and was a prominent business man of Galveston; she is the Mother of the late Byron Economidy, who, prior to his death in the last war, was an associate of mine in my law firm. She is of Grecian decent, has lived in both Greece and in the United States, speaks the two languages fluently and translates rapidly. She is familiar with the people, having some very good friends in Greece, as well as here in these United States. I am familiar with Mrs. Economidy's qualifications and I would recommend her without reservation as being honorable , highly educated, intelligent, alert and capable to fill any position including one of a confidential nature. She has an inexhaustible spirit of service and I feel that she would be valuable to the Aid to Greece organization. I would appreciate it very much if you would favorably consider recommending Mrs. Economidy for a position of this nature. With kindest personal regards, I am Sincerely your friend, (Signed in scripted MS) Maco Stewart." The letter has been stamped with blue ink next to the Maco's signature. To the bottom left corner are the words, "MS/ce."
