Object Description
Red glass bulb with brass furnishings at top and bottom of the item. There is a round loop for hanging at the top and branches shaped in the brass around this along with 8 holes that circle the outside of this. there are also holes punched around the side of the top brass fixture. Towards the top of the glass bulb, there is a black scuff mark. At the bottom, there is a round brass base that flares outward at the bottom edges. Then another bottom piece is suspended by two sets of chains which sit on pully wheels installed on the lower brass piece.
Origin
This Kandili belonged to Mae Counelis's mother , Koula Counelis and was a religious nite lite.

Kandilis normally hang in orthodox churches in front of icons or in people's homes in fornt of religious icons on mantels or to bless bedrooms. They are lit with oil.
