Object Description
A black and white photograph of a woman, two young children, a baby, and a small dog. The woman is standing behind the three children. She is wearing a checkered pattern dress with white sleeves and a white collar, it is belted with a dark belt. She is wearing a hat with flowers in it. In front of her to the right is a young boy in a sailor costume, who is holding the dog on a leash. To the left of him, the baby is sitting in a chair which has a white lace blanket on it. The baby is dressed in all white. To the left of her is the young girl who is wearing a white dress, white stockings, dark leather shoes, and bows in her hair. They are placed in front of a painted tapestry.

Mae H. Counelis, of Berwyn, IL, was born on Feb. 10, 1931, to the late Koula and Anthony Counelis. She was raised in Chicago Heights, IL, and graduated from Bloom High School. Mae received a bachelor of science degree from George Washington University, Washington, DC. She worked in the research department of the U of I, Chicago. Later, she worked in cancer research at Schering Corp. in NJ where she developed a patent for helping to cure cervical cancer.
