Object Description
A black and white formal portrait of a man dressed in a military uniform. The picture is printed on a souvenir postcard. On the back, there is Greek writing, from what you can make out his name is Anthony, and he is writing to his brother. He is standing in front of a building on a grate. One hand is holding onto a pouch that is attached to his belt. The other hand is holding onto a rifle, and the butt of the rifle is resting on the ground.
Origin
Photographs donated by Mae Counelis from her mother, Koula Lazou Counelis' estate. The man in the photo is Anthony. Mae H. Counelis, of Berwyn, IL, was born on Feb. 10, 1931, to the late Koula and Anthony Counelis. She was raised in Chicago Heights, IL, and graduated from Bloom High School. Mae received a bachelor of science degree from George Washington University, Washington, DC. She worked in the research department of the U of I, Chicago. Later, she worked in cancer research at Schering Corp. in NJ where she developed a patent for helping to cure cervical cancer.
