Object Description
Heavy black woolen vest with two pockets and various embroidered design on the edges. There is a vertical design on the front in black, gold, and white. The triangles are facing each other with a dashed line coming horizontally out from the tip. The triangles are offset so that the dashed line comes between the triangles on the opposite side. There is a gold and black braid around this design, and a few inches in from the edges. There is heavy embroidery on the front and a zigzag edge around this embroidery. The pockets have a black scalloped top. There is white and blue embroidery around the inner edge.
Origin
This dress is from a North Greek folk costume. The donor would wear this with a long blue skirt, an apron, and a long sleeved white shirt, or with a raw silk dress. The donor says that the dress is rather warm. This vest is also known as a zipouni.
