Object Description
Lovely round doily with many different stitches. The edge of the doily is scalloped with a wider stitch, while in between the rounded edges is triangle made of a more narrow stitch (the holes are smaller). Inside of this, there is a circle with triangular points attached to the edge. Inside of this, there is a diamond-shaped grid with small hoops inside some of the diamonds. Inside of this layer, there is a layer of teardrop shaped (or petal-like) stitches, all surrounding a central flower with a hole in the middle.
Origin
The doilies were handmade by relatives of the donor who lived on the island of Kos, Greece. Doilies are used for decoration or to protect furniture. They are characterized by their openwork, which allows the surface below them to show through.
