Object Description
Child's vest - part of a costume. Dark red velvet with gold thread. There is a straight line of golden thread along the seams of the jacket. The inside of the vest is pink. The collar has a wavelike line of golden thread in between two straight lines. The front of the vest has an oval made of wavelike golden thread. Inside, there is an intertwining pattern of loops that form diamonds in the middle. On the outside of this design, there are six studs on one side and two on the other (because they are missing). At the bottom of the studs, there is a small spiral design. The bottom of the vest had two straight rows of golden thread followed by one wavelike row. On the back of the vest, a row of wavelike thread and of straight thread form a V with a curve at the bottom. The back also has a spiral design done in thread. The sleeves are attached to the back of the vest. They are bordered with a straight line and a wavy line, which goes up the middle of the sleeve to form two loops. The front of the sleeve also has spiral designs.
Origin
The Evzones, or Evzoni, is the name of several historical elite light infantry and mountain units of the Greek Army. Today, it refers to the members of the Presidential Guard, an elite ceremonial unit that guards the Greek Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Presidential Mansion, and the gate of Evzones camp in Athens.

The unit is famous around the world for its unique traditional uniform, which has evolved from the clothes worn by the klephts who fought the Ottoman occupation of Greece. The most visible item of this uniform is the fustanella, a kilt-like garment. Their proven valour and peculiar dress turned them into a popular image for the Greek soldier, especially among foreigners.
