Object Description
Hand loomed blanket. Colored by natural dyes, brown beige, pink and peach colors. Fringed edges with white yarn.

Starting at the bottom of the rug (depends top/bottom perspective) the large color bands are dark brown, light pink, light brown, a lighter red/brown, then the first set of pattern begins. This pattern set is bordered by a light pink, brown, light pink, dark brown, and then brown and light pink pattern. In the space between this border and the next border (identical in pattern) is a pattern of different pinks, browns and blue triangles or hour glasses and rhombi.

Next, the large color bands continue from dark brown, and so on until we reach the central pattern set. This set is bordered by the same border as before. This main pattern, in between the borders, is different though. It consists of geometric looking butterflies with pink, brown and blue cross-shaped flowers on their left and right sides. The butterflies with light blue bodies have light pink wings and a fuschia background and the brown ones have fuschia wings and a light pink background. These depictions of butterlies with two color sets repeats the thought the pattern that fills the width of the blanket.

The bands again continue and then the final pattern set is just like the first one but with a variation in the triangle colors (the same colors but in different places).
Origin
Brought to the USA in 1928 by Stamatia Kotsiakos, then a bride (according to the information tag). Made/spun of sheered wool from family sheep.

Although it is a blanket it could also be used as a area rug and or bedspread. It has both decorative and use value (its warmth).
