Object Description
A cream, squared handkerchief from Corfu or "Kepkypa". The handkerchief depicts a landscape; mountains of green reflected in water. Birds fly from the mountains out to little islands with houses on them. A house in the foreground is the focus of the handkerchief and its dock runs all the way to the edge of the handkerchief.
Origin
Donated by Helen Costas. Corfu is one of the largest islands in the Ionia Sea. It is beautiful but its history is extensive- as far back as Greek mythology- and is laiden with conquests and battles. The island was said to have been founded by Poseidon who named it after his girlfriend, Korkya. Presently, it houses Ionian University and is a popular tourist destnation. The handkerchief is probably a tourist souviner from the island.
