Object Description
A pink, squared handkerchief from Corfu or "Kepkypa". The handkerchief depicts the island with small timeless grey buildings along a grey wall. The island is a combination of greens and there are several trees and one cross sticking out of the landscape. Birds fly above the city and all the way out to a little sailboat with a yellow sail, reflected in the blue water.
Origin
Donated by Helen Costas. Corfu is one of the largest islands in the Ionia Sea. It is a beautiful island but its history is extensive -as far back as Greek mythology- and is laden with conquests and battles. The island was said to have been founded by Poseidon who named it after his girlfriend, Kokrya. Presently, it houses Ionian University and is a popular tourist destination. The handkerchief is probably a tourists souvenir from the island.
