Object Description
WWI, George J Sakelson
Painted (colorized) bust photograph of a young man dressed in US army uniform c. 1918, during World War I. On his collar, he wears two metal pins, one that reads "US" and the other is his rank insignia, which reads "21" with two crossed rifles, and then "F". Below his bust, there are two United States flags that cross over each of his shoulders, that appear to be painted on. The photo is printed on an oval cardboard piece
Origin
On the left side of Sakelson's collar, he wears a metal pin that signifies his rank in the U.S. Army. Two crossed rifles mean Private 1st Class Infantry. The letter signifies his Company. The pin on right side of his collar means he is enlisted with the regular U.S. Army
