Object Description
A cream/ivory colored, rectangular scarf. The scarf is plain in the center, and then has an embroidered design at each end. The design at each end has the same color thread/fabric that is located in the middle portion of the scarf, as well as a lighter colored thread. The design has a contrast, compared to the stitching of the middle, of a more dense and a less dense stitching pattern, in order to distinguish itself from the middle, and in order to see the design at the ends properly. The pattern that is embroidered into each end is indistinguishable. The ends of the fabric have a scalloped design.
Origin
** For full family history, see donor file**
This scarf was presumably owned by Katherine (Hadzi Vasiliou) Emmanuel, the grandmother of the donor. It is unknown whether she purchased this scarf, or if she made it herself.
Katherine immigrated to the United States in August of 1920, through Ellis Island, NY, accompanied by her soon-to-be husband's cousin. Katherine married Andrew Emmanuel in their Pullman, IL home on September 26, 1920.
