Origin
This photograph was donated by Presvytera Ann Yankopoulos.

The people pictured are Vasili and Agora Yankopoulos. They owned a farm in Votani, which is a suburb about ten miles away from Kastoria in Macaedonia. Agora spun and dyed the wool from their sheep and wove blankets. These heavy blanket rugs were called Flokati. They were taken into the mountains by the men and boys when they took their flocks out to graze for days at a time. It was the equivilent of a sleeping bag today.

The photo and a blanket were given to Fr. StergiosYankopoulos, and donated by his wife.

Fr. Stergios Yankopoulos, known as Fr. Steve, was born June 12, 1933 in Fall River, Mass. His parents, Paskale and Lambriny Yankopoulos, immigrated from Botani, a village outside of Thessalonica. He served Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Muskegon, MI. from January 1988 till his death in 2005.

In the year 2000, his parish was able to move out of the inner city into a beautiful new Byzantine style church they erected in a suburban area. He also assisted Fr. Asterios Gerostergios of Cambridge, Ma. in translating and editing many books, most by Bishop Augoustinos Kantiotes of Phlorina, Greece.

Ann (Hege) Yankopoulos was born March 3, 1940 in Huntington, W.Va. Spent her childhood years at Endicott & Poughkeepsie. Attended N. Y. College and the Boston University received an Associated Degree.
