Dark blue military dress hat with golden trim around the folded up fabric, which goes down in a diagonal line on one side. On the other side, there is a bronze star that says "US" in the middle surrounded by a blue circle with "American Legion" printed in gold, which is in turn surrounded by a golden circle. Below this seal, the hat says "Kentucky." The inside of the hat is golden colored, with a brown band around the bottom. On this brown band, there is black writing that says "Saco Brand, National Headquarters the American Legion, Indianapolis"
The hat belonged to Nick J. Mallos (the father of the donor), who was a Private in the U. S. Army during World War I. Mallos was born in Langadia, Greece, December 6, 1888. He immigrated to America in 1912 arriving first in Virginia and eventually went to Louisville, KY where he was called to serve in the U.S. Army in May, 1918 when he was 33 years old. He was assigned as a cood in the 52nd Infantry serving in France. He was discharged on June 21, 1919.
