This is an olive-colored wool felt military cap.

The entire hat is composed of the same thick felt fabric, with seams along either end.  The crown is oval shaped and connects the two halves that make up the sides of the cap.  It has an elongated somewhat shallow dome and the bottom edge is folded up creating a two inch fold around its circumference.  

There is no band on the inside of the hat.

These are labelled as WWI Overseas Caps. The hat belonged to Nick J. Mallos (the father of the donor), who was a Private in the U. S. Army during World War I. Mallos was born in Langadia, Greece, December 6, 1888. He immigrated to America in 1912 arriving first in Virginia and eventually went to Louisville, KY where he was called to serve in the U.S. Army in May, 1918 when he was 33 years old. He was assigned as a cood in the 52nd Infantry serving in France. He was discharged on June 21, 1919.
