The flag is folded in a triangle as to imitate the appearance of the cocked hats worn by American servicement during the Revolutionary War. When the flag is completely folded only the canton of blue with the stars is visible. The blue symbolizes honor. The stars symbolize the 50 states the service men and women served. The folding of the stripes into the blue and stars also symoblizes the light of day vanishing into the dark of night. Folded flags are presented to the family of deceased service personnel and veterans as a sign of thier honorable service.
