Object Description
Trophy with a square wooden base, rectangular column, and metal figure on the top. The wooden base is shaped as a flattened cube with bevelled edges along the top four edges. In the center of the base is a wooden rectangular column, also with bevelled edges on the top four edges. On the column is a metal plaque attached by four screws in the corners. The plaque reads: "10th AHEPA-Sons N.B.T. '53 2nd Place." Centered atop the column is a metal figure on a circular metal base. Both the figure and the metal base are gold-plated. The figure is a male basketball player in shorts, tank top and sneakers. The figure appears to be jumping with one arm stretched upwards with a basketball in hand. The figures head is looking up at the basketball.
Origin
Found in collection. The trophy reference of "AHEPA-Sons" most likely pertains to AHEPA and the Sons of Pericles. The trophy is possibly from a basketball tournament sponsored by both organizations. AHEPA is a national organization promoting Hellenism, education, philanthropy, civic responsibility, and family & individual excellence. Sons of Pericles is the Junior Order of AHEPA formed in 1926.
