Object Description
Right shoe. This shoe is mostl made of a dark red or brown leather with the leather cuff folded over at the heel and across the top of the shoe showing the cloth lining. This lining is trimmed with two braided cords. The visible stiching on the inside of the shoe and irregularity of the parts indicate that it was handmade. There is a tuft of bright green string that is attached to the shoe's cuff so that it peaks out from underneath the cloth about 2.5 inches from the tip. The sole of the shoe is made from thick, hard leather that is still intact. There is also a metal attachment on the bottom of the heel, this piece of metal is in a U-shape and has two studs, one on each branch of the "U".

The shoe is quite damaged. The leather and cloth is falling apart where it was creased at th every back of the heel (where it now has a long slit) and opposite at the front of the shoe's opening. The braided trip is also discolored and damaged. The leather itself is scuffed up and the cloth appears dirty. The tuft of green string is falling apart at the slightest touch.
Origin
Unknown- found in a box with assorted items the only one of which could be identified (2009.11.1) was donated by Magda Simopoulos.
This shoe resembles a traditional tsarouhi becasue of its pointeed shape and material. However, it does not bear the characteristic pompom. The tuft of green string could have been a cheaper alternative to a pompom or once held a pompom that has since fallen off.
