Object Description
Clarinet made by Buffet Crampon of Paris. Brevetes Model. Engraving with the brand name and model on each component of the clarinet. According to note attached to clarinet, it is over 100 years old. Made of wood with silver colored metal keys. Dark brown finish. Very long body that curves out into a bell shape at the end. Was found disassembled in four pieces, can be reassembled. Mouthpiece is without a reed so it cannot be played. Metal keys are slightly rusted in some places and the pads under the keys have fallen apart. All keys still move. Glue holding the pieces together has turned green. There is residue from old stickers in some places. A few light scratches here and there, but generally in good condition.
Origin
Found in collections. This clarinet was manufactured by Buffet Crampon of Paris, a luxury Clarinet company which dates back to 1836. The clarinet was initially donated in 1995. According to a note attached to the clarinet, it is over 100 years old, placing its manufacture around 1895. Its model is Brevetes, which is no longer made. Also according to the note left on the Clarinet, it was played by Jim Stoynoff as a member of The Greek Lads.
