Object Description
This is a black cigarette box with gold coloured edging and lettering. The top of the box has lettering, in English, that says, "Hellas Special" and "Papastrados-Athens". Both short sides of the box have the inscription "Hellas Speical 20 Cigarettes" written in English. The front side of the box has "Made in Greece" writtein in English. On the back is a gold Greek meander pattern on a black background. On the top of the box is a simple picture of a Greek column supporting a building structure and of a sea and either the sun or the moon. There is a blue stamp on the box that says "Cigarette A 20 series 125".
Origin
The cigarette box was donated by Pete Poulos from Missoula, Montana. Hellas Special brand was manufactured by Papastrados Cigarette Co. SA in Athens. The Hellas Special brand has stopped being manufactured since 1986. Class A cigarettes were the cheapest cigars. Series 125 has been used from 1955- 1959.
