Object Description
A framed needlework by Kaity Goulieri, the mother's cousin, for her dowry. It is in a gold frame and the linen is white with gold colored thread. There are ten exact same sections, two across and five down. In the sections there is a diamond with a gold border and inside it has a flower in each corner and one in the middle. In each section the four corners have a small gold diamond and around them there are various right angles all over.
Origin
The father of the donor, Michael Gekas (Athanasios Gekas), was born in 1909 in Glina, Epirus, Greece. He came to Chicago in 1926 and was a tailor. The donor's mother is Effie Gekas was born in 1920 in Parga, Epirus, Greece. Michael and Effie's families knew each other and the two met when he came back to Greece in 1936. They got married in 1936-37 and moved to Chicago where they had a daughter and a son.
