Object Description
A needlework, no longer framed, by Vasiliki Tsovili for her dowry. It is a white linen with a brown border. In the four corners there is a blue and gray scroll design and pink flowers with green leaves and brown stem. On the top and bottom of the needlework there are more blue and gray designs with a couple pink flowers with no leaves.
Origin
The father of the donor, Michael Gekas (Athanasios Gekas), was born in 1909 in Glina, Epirus, Greece. He came to Chicago in 1926 and was a tailor. The donor's mother is Effie Gekas was born in 1920 in Parga, Epirus, Greece. Michael and Effie's families knew each other and the two met when he came back to Greece in 1936. They got married in 1936-37 and moved to Chicago where they had a daughter and a son.
