Object Description
A doily made by Effie Gekas for her dowry. It is tan and shaped like a diamond. It is all made of flowers attached by lines. There are four flowers on each side. There are some light stains.
Origin
The father of the donor, Michael Gekas (Athanasios Gekas), was born in 1909 in Glina, Epirus, Greece. He came to Chicago in 1926 and was a tailor. The donor's mother is Effie Gekas was born in 1920 in Parga, Epirus, Greece. Michael and Effie's families knew each other and the two met when he came back to Greece in 1936. They got married in 1936-37 and moved to Chicago where they had a daughter and a son.
