A painting of Peter and Paul holding the Greek Orthodox Church of Glenview, IL. There is a gold line and a red line, closer to the painting, for the borders. The background has the look of wood and on the top over the two men there is writing in Greek. The two men are Peter and Paul, Peter is the one with white hair and facial hair, a brown floor length robe with a gold scarf, and sandals. He is holding a piece of paper with writing on it and part of the Church while Paul is holding a red and green box with a red and white triangle on the front with other designs around it as well. Paul is wearing blue floor length robes with a red scarf that is on his shoulders and then wrap around his shins. He is also wearing sandals but had brown hair and facial hair. Around the heads of Peter and Paul is a large circle made up of small yellow circles. The two are holding the Greek Orthodox Church which looks to be the shape of a cross or t-shape. The sides are a beige color with brown doors in the middle of the ends and tall windows along the sides. The roof is red with a gold colored glass dome in the center. Right underneath the painting on the white paper it says "Consecration of Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church - November 19, 1978. Under that on the left side in a black italicized font is Pslam 24:9, in the middle it says "O Lord Protect and grant many years to him who blesses and sanctifies us Reverend Father George J. Scoulas." On the bottom right side it is signed by Archbishop Iakovos, Biship Philotheos, and Reverend Father George J. Scoulas. The red and gold borders go around all the writing and on the outside of them there is blank cream colored area. The painting is in a wood frame with a leaf-like pattern on it and the front part is painted a gold color.
Origin
In 1958 several Greek Orthodox Christians met with each other and talked about how the northern suburbs of Chicago needed a place for them to worship. The group grew and moved around from place to place until The Church of Saints Peter and Paul was consecrated on November 19, 1978 by Archbishop Iakovos. Father George Scoulas come from Pittsburgh in 1974 and helped the parish grow to ober 800 families and many new ministries were created. He passed away in October of 2000. Paul, also known as Apostle Paul, makes up most of the information in the New Testement of the Bible. Before his conversion he was known as Saul and was dedicated to the persecution of the early disciples of Jesus in Jerusalem. On his way to Jerusalem the resurected Jesus appeared to him in a great light, he was struck blind and three days later his sight was restored by a disciple. After that Paul began to preach that Jesus was the Son of God. Peter was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and was in the New Testment of the Bible frequently. Peter is regarded as the first pope of the Catholic Church. He also was with Jesus on many occasions such as walking on water and the transfiguration. He preached to scattered communities of believers and established the church of Antioch.
