Object Description
This is a silver and wood, standard sized, shovel. The shovel handle is a light-colored polished wood while the spade section and hand grip supports are a silver metal. The handle has the words "Ames True Temper" on it, the brand of the shovel.
Origin
In 2010 a ceremony was held called Soaring to New Heights, which was attended by Chicago's Mayor, Richard M. Daley, as well as the National Hellenic Museum Board of Directors, various media outlets, Museum staff, and VIP guests.

The event served as a formal groundbreaking ceremony for the National Hellenic Museum's new building at 333 S. Halsted St. in Chicago's Greektown.

This shovel was used by the Museum's then-Executive Director, Stephanie Vlahakis to overturn a ceremonial patch of dirt, and to pose for photographs.
