Object Description
This is a mint green skirt worn by the donor, Stephanie Vlahakis, as a part of a traditional Greek children's costume.

The dress itself was originally a light sky blue color (see photograph in 'Related' section) but has faded and washed over the years to its current mint green color.

The skirt is hemmed at the bottom and has an elastic waistband with blue thread trimming.
Origin
Stephanie Vlahakis (former President of the National Hellenic Museum) and her family grew up in New Jersey. Many Greek children were given traditional costumes to wear for family events, special events (such as birthdays) and for ceremonies (both religious and secular).

Stephanie donated this skirt along with a number of other pieces of the costumes to the National Hellenic Museum before leaving the museum as President.

It is unclear how often the donor, or her siblings, wore these items.
