Origin
A black and white abstract painting by Thomas Kapsalis.

He is a veteran of WWII, a German POW, and a soldier in The Battle of the Bulge. He saw first hand the horrors of the war. His work after the war was meant to celebrate his freedom and creative opportunities. The Vetinam era and accompanying controversies lead him to paint in only black and white as a sign of protest. He has been teaching for decades at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he is a Professor Emeritus. Mr. Kapsalis' work is in Museum Collections and in private collections. His paintings are known nationally. His teachings at the School of the Art Institute has influenced future artists, both in the United States and Abroad.
