Origin
They are among the first Apostles to be iconized besides, Andrew and John.

Peter is known to be the first to be called by Jesus; his name was originally Simon, but Jesus called him Peter because it means 'Rock' . Jesus inteneded him the be the rock that become the foundation for the faith.

Paul is known for his traveling and missionary work as the 13th Apostle. He was once known as Saul and was not always an apostle, after a series of events that lead to him becoming blind and then regaining sight by way of a miricle, he chaned his name to reflect his new life.

Some evidence suggests that Paul was beheaded and Peter was crucified upside down at the hands of Nero. They were burried together, maybe why they are often iconized together, aside from that fact that were close in age, and thier saintly objectives.

Memorial Feasts in thier names are held June 29th and is one of the largest Saints days observed all year, especially in Rome.
