Object Description
This is a large painting/icon depicting the baptism of Jesus. Jesus is in the middle, standing in a body of water, dressed in white robes. On his left side is John the Baptist, dressed in all green, extending his hand over Jesus' head. On Jesus' right side is an angel. There is Greek writing on the top portion of the painting. The painting is in a highly detailed gold frame. The back of the frame is in very poor, fragile condition.
Origin
The Baptism Of Christ seems to be a popular theme in relgious art, depicted on many mediums by coutless artist including wall mosiacs, stained glass windows, a sculpture by Alessandro Algardi, canvis by Fra Angelico, and one by Leonardo da Vinci. Some belive it was da Vinci's first know painting.

Commonly, the body of water in the depicted is The River Jordan, and is most likley the water intened in this image. Dove is sybolic of the Holy Spirit.
