Object Description
Square, tawny-colored linen with cross-stitching pattern of red, blue, brown and black. Evidence of slight staining and crease marks. Some fraying of the cross stitch pattern on the reverse. There is a peach edge around the entire table cloth. The tablecloth also has a border outlined in peach of peach cross stitch diamonds and black shapes. Inside of this outline, there is a snowflake in black in each corner that is surrounded by alternating blue and peach triangles. The middle of the tablecloth has the same border as the outside of the fabric in a rectangle.
Origin
Cross stitch is a form of counted thread embroidery, in which the number of threads in the fabric must be counted in order to ensure equal tightness across all of the stitches. Pieces of cross stitch are typically called samplers because they were made by girls who were beginning to learn how to sew.
