Object Description
An orange and white wool rug. The rug is woven with a thick orange thread and a thinner white thread. There is a pattern of diamonds woven down the middle of the length of the rug. On either side of this is a pattern of straight and wavy lines, followed by three more columns of diamonds on each side and then more lines. Along the long edges of the rug are tufts made with a light orange thread. A couple small areas of the rug have dark stains on them.
Origin
This rug was donated by Nicholas and Antigone Zaverdas. It was made in Greece around 1918. The rug was hand-woven on a loom by Sophie Valassis Pappanduros. Pappanduros was a relative of the Zaverdas's, possibly Antigone's mother and Nicholas's mother-in-law.
