Object Description
A wool shag rug. The backing/base of the rug is red. In the center of the rug is a large rectange of red shag. Around this is a rectangle of yellow shag, followed by a black rectangle, and then a ping rectangle around the edge of the rug. The shag is somewhat matted and crusty, and there are tears in the fabric.
Origin
This blanket, along with the other textiles in the donation, was presented to Frank N. Frangos in 1949 in Kontreva in appreciation of his support of the village. Kontreva is a village near Tripoli, Arcadia, in the Peloponnese region. Frank was born in 1908, and immigrated to the United States in 1922. This type of rug is known as a flokati, a type of shag rug made in the Pindus mountains of northern Greece.
