Object Description
A square doily made with a cross-stitch pattern and has orange and green designs. The background is beige and the border is done in orange. There is an inner orange square and in the top inner corner is an orange and green geometric/floral design. The flower itself is made of four orange arrows pointing at one another and has a green center. In each of the outer corners of the arrows, there is a green "X". The four corners of this flower design are larger green "X". On the inner orange border, the outside of it is lined with green stitching which appears to look like flowers.
Origin
Created by Penolope Neokos. She was born in Greece in 1899. In later years she came to the United States with her husband Nickolas, also native to Greece, where they became citizens of Illinois and lived in the city of Chicago. While in Chicago she and her husband lived with her brother, her two sons (Ernie and John), and their one daughter (Frances).
Handmade by Penolope, whether or not this was created in Greece as a part of a dowry or made in America is unknown.
