Object Description
Gold framed (no glass) out work on fine batiste. Off white fabric on a green background. In the bottom left corner, there is a triangle of cutwork with a grid across it in white thread. The matting of the frame is green. Spanning from the bottom right corner to the top left corner, there are cutwork flowers in white. They start with three stems in the bottom right corner, which then branches and intertwines. There are three groups of three flowers, one group of two, one group of five, and one flower all alone. There are circles along the stem, as well as embroidered leaves.
Origin
Cutwork is when a piece of the fabric is cut out, then stitching is used to reinforce the edges of the remaining fabric. This embroidery was probably meant to be used as decoration.
