Object Description
This chocolate chipper has a round wooden handle and metal fork like head. The handle is plain and cylindrical with decoration and has clearly been used. The metal shows considerable rust. The metal is in a couple of pieces; the first is a cylindrical shaft that connects the head to the handle. Next a a flat piece of metal wraps around the cylinder and then flattens out to create a hoe-shaped base in which the five pointed prongs are secured. Each 1.75 inch long prong is spiked at the end and fits into a little cup on the face. Each prong is spaced uniformly half an inch apart. There are no identifying marks on the tool.
Origin
This utensil is a chocolate chipper. Knives are not very useful in cutting chocolate slabs because they just crack the chocolate into shards and are difficult to use. The prongs on a chocolate chipper force the chocolate to break into useable chunks and spreads out the force so that it creates multiple chunks at a time instead of just shattering the chocolate.
