Object Description
Embroidery work on black velvet with floral design, unfinished. There are long white stitches surrounding each of the flower designs. The designs are in a V shape, made with flowers and vines. At the bottom of the V are pink embroidered flowers with two purple flowers above it. The purple flowers are connected by a vine that has orange flowers attached. The orange flowers are spaced out a bit more than the purple ones. Above the orange flowers, there are yellow flowers with two vines going to and coming from them. In the middle of the two vines, there is a reddish flower. All the flowers have a yellow center except the yellow flower that has a pink center. The beige fabric on the back has writing in Greek. Two of the three edges have a border on the cloth that acts as backing.
Origin
Embroidery was originally used to reinforce seams and could be seen as a part of a girl's transition into womanhood.
