Object Description
Embroidery work on black velvet with floral design, unfinished. There are long white stitches surrounding each of the flower designs. The designs are in a V shape, made with flowers and vines. There is a pink flower at the bottom of each V, with two purple flowers above it. The purple flowers are connected by a vine to orange flowers, which are a little more spaced out thean the purple ones. Above the orange flowers, there are yellow flowers with two vines going to and coming from them. In the middle of the two vines, there is a reddish flower. All of the flowers have a yellow center except the yellow flower, which has a pink center. The beige fabric on the back has writing in Greek. Two of the three edges have a border of the cloth that is acting as backing.
Embroidery was originally used to reinforce seams and could be seen as a part of a girl's transition into womanhood.
