Dove Candy Box #5. Large, rectangular gold box.  In large, green, cursive font, "Dove Candies" is stamped on the right half of the lid.   Underneath, in small plain green font, "Net wt. Eighty Ounces (5 Lbs.)". A wide, lacy red banner runs vertically on the left side of the lid with a green dove holding an olive branch superimposed. On the vertical side of the lid, "Fresh Made" is stamped.   Another vertical side reads "6000 S. Pulaski Road" and underneath that is written "5172 W. 95th Street".

Greek-American founder Leo Stefanos created Dove Candies in 1939 in Chicago. In 1956, Stefanos created the Dove brand of ice cream bars and began distributing them across the country in 1956. Leo Stefanos was born in Greece and then settled on Chicago's south side. According to Dove Chocolate company lore, he was frightened when his young son, Michael, raced recklessly down the street in pursuit of the neighborhood ice cream truck and decided to make his own ice cream bar in hopes of keeping Michael and his brother and sister, Chris and Amy, closer to home. The blocky chocolate-covered bars were sold only in the Chicago area until after Stefano's death, when his son expanded the business and then sold it to Mars, Incorporated.
