Object Description
Square communion tie, blue cross stitched detail. Cream fabric with polyester fringe on three sides, satin ribbon ties. The border around all of the edges is blue, with white crosses of equal length and four pointed stars. There is also a blue cross in each corner. In the middle, there is a cross outlined with blue with a smaller blue cross in each arm. There are also four stars in the middle. The back of the tie is plain.
Origin
Reverend George Thomas (Thomopoulos) was the uncle of the donor. Thomas was a Greek Orthodox Priest for 57 years, starting in 1941. He was born in Mavromati, Greece and immigrated to the US in 1931, when he settled in Nebraska. From 1937 to 1942, he worked at St. Andrew Church and St. Constantine. He wrote several books on the Orthodox Church. He was devoted to preserving the Greek language.
