Object Description
A golden-colored belt buckle in two parts, a hook, and a ring that are used to fasten. The shape of each part resembles a leaf. Both depict a similar scene of two figures in a garden setting. The setting in the part of the buckle that has the ring, each figure is smiling and they are in good spirits. The part of the buckle with the hook contains almost the same scene, however, the figures are frowning and appear to be upset. Along the edges of the buckles, there is an intricate design of shapes and lines. On the hook is a small embellishment at the curve. The scene with the smiling figures contains much more luster than the other part. Black tarnish is more visible in the part of the buckle with the frowning figures. There are Greek words inscribed near the hook and the ring. On the reverse side of the buckle, each part contains the slot in which a belt would loop through. It is visible where the hook and ring have been sauntered on. There are no designs on the reverse side, the surface is smooth with grooves. Some of the black tarnishing and wearing can be seen along the edges of the reverse side.
