Object Description
Small green and black tablecloth. Thin strips of alternating bright green and black cover most of cloth. A center square and bordering rectangles are filled with geometric design in these colors. Four sides have fringe. There are four squares in each corner to form a square shape and two rectangles on each side going between the squares (one is level with the top two squares, while the other is level with the bottom two). In the middle, there is a central rectangle (which is almost a square). All of the shapes contain lines of circles with a small grid like pattern in green between them.
Origin
Elaborately embroidered household items were often seen as a mark of status or wealth. It was also used to reinforce cloth and as a part of a girl's transition into womanhood. This appears to have been created using the counted thread technique, which ensures that all of the stitches come out evenly.
