Object Description
Color photograph of the inside of St. Nicholas Albanian Church in Chicago. The photo is of the weeping Mary. There is a black fence around her with a golden handrail at the top. Above her, there are golden holders with chains. There are flowers surrounding her. She is wearing a red and blue robe, while holding a full-grown Jesus wearing a gold and white robe while holding a scroll. There is another panel with a religious figure next to her. There are two men standing outside the fence on either side of the panel. Both are wearing black robes. One has a golden cross around their nect, while the other is completely covered in black, except for their face. In between them, ere are flowers and candles with religious figures on them.
Origin
St. Nicholas Albanian Church was founded in 1944. Their first church building was purchased in 1947. The founders were from the southeastern part of Albania, a city called Korca. They are said to have an icon of Mother Mary that weeps as though by a miracle. Many visitors come to see this icon.
