Object Description
This float is from St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church in the 1975 Greek Independence Day Parade. St. Basil was built in 1910 as a synagogue by the areas Jewish population. The building was transformed into a church for the Greek community in 1927. Though Chicago's Greek Americans had begun their transition to the suburbs outside the city, the church was still an important space for the community.
