Object Description
Laminated scanned photo of a Kemenste, a Greek instrument. It has a teardrop shaped head with three knobs on the top whic are connected to its three strings. It has a short neck with a decorative board under the strings with flower designs on it. The body of the instrument is extremely long and narrow. The bridge is between two curved holes in the body of the instrument, and the strings are secured some distance beyond that at the base of the body. The photo is black and white.
Origin
A Kemenste, also known as a Lyra Pontos, is from the area of Pontos in Greece. It is held in an upright position while being played with a bow. It is usually played alone.
