Object Description
A black-and-white photographic print. Four men are standing on a path in front of a house, with a fifth man sitting in a chair in front of them. All of the men are wearing similar military uniforms and military side caps. A couple of the men have medals on their chests. The man in the chair has more medals than any of the others and appears to be older. They are standing/sitting on a step along the path leading to the house. There are plants on either side of them. There is a woman standing on the porch behind them. She is wearing a floral-patterned outfit and leaning against the wall.
Origin
This picture was donated by Daisy Agres. The man sitting in the chair appears to be John Agreostathes. Agreostathes (or Agriostathis) was born in 1879 and apparently served as an officer in the Greek army before immigrating to the United States. In the lead-up to the Balkan Wars, he organized and trained young Greek men in Chicago. In 1912, it is recorded that they were preparing to travel to Greece to take part in the conflict. It looks like all of the men are wearing "Greek War Veterans" caps, so this may be a picture of Agreostathes and some of the men he trained or fought with, but it is unknown when or where the picture was taken.
