Reproduction of religious object- a gold reliquary with carved scenes of Christ's life in the form of a cross. Decorated with blue and green enamel and red, yellow and blue jewels. Photo taken on a blue background, framed behind glass in a gold frame.
A reliquary is a container for relics. These may be the purported physical remains of saints, such as bones, pieces of clothing, or some object associated with saints or other religious figures. The authenticity of any given relic is often a matter of debate; for that reason, some churches require documentation of the relic's provenance.
