Object Description
Black and white photo of a man (Lou Karras) wearing old-fashioned football gear, including a leather helmet. Leather helmet has different shades of leather judging from values of lighter and darker, with three circles on either side of the center strip on top of helmet. Number on jersey, but his pose makes it unable to be read. Posed in a crouched position, as if he were preparing to tackle. Posed on grass with a fence and trees in the background.
Origin
Photo of professional football player, and Greek American, Lou Karras, during his college football years. Lou attended and played football for Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN (graduated 1950) and played as a defensive tackler. He was a 4-year letterman and was named most valuable player in 1949. Karras played in East-West Game and the Hula Bowl; played on Chicago All-Star Team against world champion Philadelphia Eagles; selected by Notre Dame (#1 in the nation) to Top Opponent Team 1948; led his team in an agonizingly close 28-27 defeat by Notre Dame.

Karras played professional football on the Washington Redskins from 1950-1953, but sustained and eye injury that ultimately ended his professional football career

He was inducted into the AHEPA Hall of Fame in 1995 and was inducted to the Indiana Football Hall of Fame May 18, 2003
