Object Description
Photo of a line of Greek men marching in what is presumed to be the Greek Independence Day parade. There is one man that matches the line of Greek men, but he is standing out of the line and off to the left, marching with them. There is a tall building in the background along with other various buildings and businesses. There are also spectators located on the side of the street. Greek and American flags fly along the sides of the streets.
Origin
In 1821, Greeks vigorously rose up against the oppressive Ottoman Empire which had occupied Greece for nearly four hundred years, embarking on the ultimately successful war of independence. An annual parade in the streets of Chicago commemorates this major time of celebration for the people of Greece.
