Object Description
A black and white photograph of the Katsikas Orchestra. Staged photo of six men playing various instruments. Starting from the left, the men play the accordion, the violin, the clarinet, the drums, the saxophone, and the bells (santouri?). The men stand in front of a white backdrop and seem to be portrayed as playing their instruments.
Origin
The Katsikas Orchestra was a band of Greek-Americans that played music for several generations of Greeks throughout the 50s, 60s, and 70s.
The members were reported as follows; Andy Sera, Bass Fiddle; Ray Janas, Accordion; Sam Fotopoulos, Violin; John L. Katsikas, Santouri (Hammer Dulcimer); Lucas Katsikas, Clarinet; George Poulos, Saxophone, Chris Fotopoulos, Drums.
The Katsikas Orchestra enlarges with a full complement of Greek and American music and dons uniform attire.
This is the orchestra that played for Their Majesties King Paul and Queen Fredrika of Greece on November 8, 1953, at the Civic Opera House in Chicago.
