Object Description
A black and white photograph of the Katsikas Orchestra. Eight orchestra members all standing in front of a blank backdrop. From left to right, the men are playing the santori, the accordion, the clarinet, the drums (bottom), the violin (top), the saxophone, the guitar, and the drums. A provenance about The Katsikas Orchestra is on the back, along with the assumed original picture and a name card reading, "John L. Katsikas, 2131 N. Harlem - #229, Chicago, IL 60635, 312/637-0884".
Origin
The Katsikas Orchestra
John L. Katsikas, Santouri (Cimbalom or Hammer Dulcimer); Ray Janas, Accordion; Lucas Katsikas, CLarinet; Sam Fotopoulos, Violin; Ed Drucker, American Drummer; Geroge Poulos, Saxophone; Spiros Skouras, Guitar; Chris Fotopoulos, Greek Drummer.
Picture taken in 1957 shows the complete band as it was most readily recognized in the '50s, '60s, and '70s. 100,000 copies of the picture were printed and distributed widely as "The Katsikas Band Card," which accounted for the band playing music for the weddings and baptisms of several generations of the same families.
